Program Overview

A class trip to the Center for the Urban River at Beczak is an educational experience your students will never forget.

Through observation, exploration, and discovery our education programs connect children to the natural world. We utilize an interdisciplinary approach to environmental education using the Hudson River and community as our classroom. All programs align with New York State Common Core and incorporate inquiry based, hands-on learning for students of all ages.

Booking your program:

After you have selected a program of choice please contact Elisa Caref, Director of Education via email ecaref@sarahlawrence.edu or call (914) 377-1900 ext. 12 to schedule a date and time.

At that time you may discuss any suggestions or requirements we may accommodate to meet your class needs.

Make the most of your day and book two programs.  You can book a morning program and an afternoon program with lunch in between.  Inquire about which programs complement each other.

One Day, Two Hudson River Experiences: Looking for a fun and educational way to explore the Hudson River with your students? Pick a day, pick a program and join educators at CURB to discover first hand the biodiversity of life thriving in and around the Hudson River watershed. The spend the other half of the day with educators aboard Groundwork Hudson Valley's Science Barge, a sustainable urban farm powered by solar, wind and biofuel and irrigated by rainwater and purified river water.

Both of these programs will provide students with a cohesive understanding and excitement for the mighty Hudson River. See flyer for details about programming options.

Lunch Accommodations:  Most groups eat lunch at our Center before or after a program.  Weather depending you can picnic in the park or eat indoors in the classroom space.  There are benches around the park or you can bring blankets to sit on.

Parking:  The Center has a parking lot for additional visitors and space for buses.

Reserving your program:

A 50% non-refundable deposit is required shortly after booking the program to complete the reservation upon receiving the paperwork.  The remaining balance is due no later than the program date.

Many of the outdoor riverfront programs are dependent on the tides and spaces are limited so please call early to schedule your visit.  This includes “Catch of the Day” Seining and Marsh Exploration programs.
