Center for the Urban River at Beczak Awarded $40,000 Grant from New York State

Sarah Lawrence College's Center for the Urban River at Beczak (CURB) is one of 39 organizations and government agencies along the Hudson River to receive a grant from New York State aimed at improving recreational access, enhancing environmental education, and advancing stewardship of natural resources. The grants were announced by Governor Kathy Hochul on October 26, and are funded by the State’s Environmental Protection Fund and administered by the Department of Environmental Conservation's Hudson River Estuary Program.

The grant awarded to Sarah Lawrence College totals $40,000 and will support a partnership between CURB and SLC’s Child Development Institute to extend and expand their ongoing collaborations on professional development programming for educators focused on education and the environment. The funds will be used to develop a formal curriculum for a newly reimagined collaborative professional development program entitled, "Teaching the Environment: Discovering Urban Landscapes and Watersheds."
