The United Nations Association of Westchester invites you and motivated students to join us for a county-wide showcase of student projects and campaigns that respond to the climate crisis. UNA-Westchester’s celebration of United Nations Day 2019 will be held on October 20th from 3:00 to 5:00 pm (registration begins at 2:30) at the Community Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 468 Rosedale Ave., White Plains NY 10605.

This UN Day celebration will be a follow-up to our Annual Meeting which featured Westchester leaders who are successfully taking action on the climate crisis. A youth delegate to the Civil Society Conference in Salt Lake City, Annie Deng, will lead off the program.

The discussion will be led by Nina Orville (Co-chair, Energy Committee, Westchester Climate Crisis Task Force) and Peter McCartt (Director, Sustainable Westchester and Chair, Climate Crisis Task Force).

The event will feature demonstrations by Westchester students (including CURB's Blue Team!) who are involved in climate action projects and campaigns. A Climate Action Dialogue with students who are taking action – led by Peter McCartt, Nina Orville, and Paul Presendieu - will feature:

  1. Community gardens – WCC & Yonkers Partners in Education (YPIE)
  2. Sunrise Movement – Mamaroneck HS students
  3. Plastic pollution - Mount Vernon High School students
  4. Climate Stories Project – Berenice Thompkins
  5. Video on Earth Sustainability from former Woodlands HS student
