CURB Launches New Research Afterschool Program

This fall, CURB launched its first ever Research Afterschool Program, free for students from several Yonkers Public High Schools. 15 students signed up to spend Wednesday afternoons with us on-site, meeting from 3:30-5 each week. In the seven sessions, in addition to some at-home activities, students have been learning about field work on the Hudson River, as well as methods for data collection and analysis. They also had a resumé workshop from the Sarah Lawrence College Career Services department, helping our students start to think about their future academic and professional lives. The Research Afterschool Program is being run by our education team, in addition to a Sarah Lawrence student intern. This program was piloted thanks to generous funding from Carvel, and we hope to continue offering it in future years to help local students start on a path of life-long love for research and science.
