Volunteer Opportunities at CURB

CURB is always on the lookout for volunteers and interns to assist us with various projects and programs around our center. Some of our upcoming greatest needs include:

  • Weekday Education Program Help (year-round) – Assisting our educators with our Hudson River themed youth education programs for school children aged pre-k to high school. Many for these programs are outdoors in our park, often including river seining.
  • Saturday Public Program Volunteers (May – October) – Each Saturday we offer free craft and fishing programs to local families here in Yonkers, and look for volunteers to work with our weekend staff.
  • Gardening (May – November) – Here at our site we have an after school children’s garden program each spring and potentially fall. We also have a riverfront tidal marsh which is used for research purposes as well as our education programs.
  • Aquarium Maintenance (year-round) – Our Center houses approximately a dozen fish and turtle tanks with local marine species and rescue turtles. We’re always looking for help with tank maintenance as well as animal feedings.
  • Eel Research Project (Feb – June) – CURB participates in a study tracking the migration of American eels from the Atlantic Ocean up the Hudson River. Each afternoon in the spring we wade out into our marsh to count and release these migrating eels that are caught in a fyke net.
