Summer Science Fellowships at CURB

This summer CURB welcomes two Sarah Lawrence College students to the team as part of the Summer Science Program. Aubrey Baker and Molly Galant will be assisting staff with our various research projects including water quality monitoring, eDNA, and Hudson River seining. In addition, they will be helping out during our 2-week high school ecology course, as well as taking on tasks such as animal care, gardening, and social media outreach. Let’s take a moment to get to know Aubrey and Molly:

Aubrey Baker - As an upcoming junior at Sarah Lawrence College, I am pursuing Environmental Science and Writing. My specific interests involve Animal Behavior studies and Primatology. After Sarah Lawrence, I hope to join the Peace Corps and learn more about sustainable agriculture before attending graduate school to obtain a Masters in Primatology and Environmental Justice. In my time at Sarah Lawrence-pre CURB-I had yet to step foot in a lab. Working at CURB is giving me the opportunity to gain invaluable skills associated with conducting research, as well as maintaining a scientific facility. What I love most about CURB is the sense of community it has fostered. The enthusiasm exhibited by volunteers, team members, and onlookers is tangible. CURB really is a special place.

Molly Galant - Hi! My name is Molly Galant and I am a rising junior at Sarah Lawrence College. I am studying environmental science and creative writing. I hope to focus on environmental advocacy, and I believe it is important to build a background in the sciences and gain necessary experiences in fieldwork in order to help as best that I can.
