Get to Know CURB's Spring Intern Maryanne Roughton

Maryanne Roughton is a senior at Sarah Lawrence College and studies political economy. Outside of her coursework, Maryanne works on campus as a Resident Advisor and Library Supervisor. Additionally, she is the treasurer of the Law and Political Economy (LPE) Society at SLC, a club that hosts meetings in order to produce meaningful dialogues about the LPE framework.

A Michigan native, Maryanne grew up spending lots of time in nature, particularly in Michigan’s great lakes. Her love for water and nature as a whole played a role in cultivating her passion for environmental and social justice. Maryanne has worked hard to integrate these personal passions with her professional work. Her experiences as a Community Organizer for Clean Water Action, a non-profit dedicated to expanding and defending the Clean Water Act, and as an Intern for Power in Place, a non-profit striving to increase female representation in politics, have granted her the opportunity to do just that.

Maryanne is incredibly excited to be a part of CURB’s team. She is looking forward to venturing into the Hudson River for data collection and to grow her knowledge of the estuary’s history and ecosystem.
